FAQ's

Will my phone work?

Telstra NextG and Optus Yes G usually work well.  Vodaphone and Virgin carriers do not usually work. Digital phone services DO NOT work here at all and you need to go about 30 kms toward Coonamble or Gilgandra to pick up that signal.

Can I get internet access?

Wireless NextG modems work in certain places. I use a 1 metre extension aerial and it downloads at about 400kbps.

What is the address for GPS or Sat Nav?

Boxridge Road OR Warrumbungle National Park Road, GULARGAMBONE. We are 6.18kms from the T Intersection with the Castlereagh Highway at Gulargambone

How do I get there?

From Sydney you make your way to Gilgandra. In Gilgandra go up the Main Street and head towards Coonamble. . . .  DO NOT GO TO COONABARABRAN!!

Half an hour later you will arrive in Gulargambone. Stay on the Castlereagh Highway and go over the Gulargambone Creek Bridge on the northern edge of town. This is the Coonamble Road. 100 metres over the bridge you will see a right turn to the Warrumbungle National Park. We are 6kms out that road on the right. You will see a white circle at our front ramp.

There are specific directions on our maps page which we encourage you to print out and bring along in the car. There is also a link to google maps there.

Why are there frogs in the toilet?

Because that is where they live

How long does it take from Sydney?

It is about 500kms and we allow 6 hours. If it is your first trip out here, take your time and split the trip up. Ideally you should do it in 8 hours and arrive here before sun set.

We usually go down through Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst Lithgow and come home the other way through Lithgow, Mudgee, Dunedoo, Mendooran, Gilgandra.

We also vary our trip over the mountains using both Bells line through Richmond and the Katoomba Road. With the new Link Roads in Sydney it doesn't make a big difference (depending on where you are going) but there are always new things to look at each time which makes the trip more interesting.

Do the frogs in the toilet bite?

Not so far !

Do I need linen?

Linen is supplied in the houses.  If you are using the swags, mattresses/tents or the beds in the party shed, bringing your own bedding will save you money.

How far to the Dubbo Zoo?

Dubbo Zoo is about 120kms. Allow an hour and a half.

Can we touch the animals?

Wilber is a working farm. Its not like the zoo where things are kept in pens for the benefit of the public. From time to time we have pet lambs near the house that are quite tame. You are welcome to wander out into the paddocks and try to catch a sheep  . . . you may be lucky and you will certainly sleep well. The cattle are all around the property and can be seen from your vehicle....You are welcome to touch the frogs!

We ask that you feed the chooks while you are on the property and collect fresh eggs each morning. The kids usually love doing this.

What can we do there?

  1. Enjoy the space. Ride pushbikes across the plain, catch yabbies, curl up by the fire and read, kick a ball with the kids, lay on the lawn and count stars, walk at sunset, feed chooks, dress up and drink martinis!!

  2. Be a local. Grocery shop in town, visit 2828 for lunch and watch the short dvd about our community, go out and have dinner at the pub, golfie or bowlo, play golf, visit the local pool, get involved in what's going on.

  3. Take a day trip to Western Plains Zoo Dubbo and Old Dubbo Gaol. Lightning Ridge is another great day trip and make sure you have a mineral spa in the hot springs before the drive home.

  4. Head up to the Warrumbungles for an afternoon walk then have a BBQ in the campground and do a star-gazing session with Peter Starr in his paddock. If you want you can hire a tent/swags and sleep up there overnight.

  5. Do a 2 hour farm tour with either Rodney or Sandra. A yabbying trip with Doug and Nick or a have a go Spotlighting at night with Tilly and Doug.

  6. Catch the frogs in the toilet and take them over to the dam!

Where will I buy groceries & fuel?

It would be ideal if you could buy them in Gulargambone (6kms) as it will help our little community. Petrol is available most mornings in town and the bowser is run by local volunteers. We'd love it if you could fill up while you were here!.

Is there a doctor in town?

There is a visiting Doctor who is usually here on Tuesdays. Scripts return the next day on transport. The local store has basic medicines like panadol and some ointments. The local hospital is open 24hrs a day and is always staffed with a Registered Nurse.  There is a local Honorary Ambulance who are the first responders in an emergency.

Where do we go when we arrive?

Each house is well signed. Your house will be open and the keys will be in the door. Make yourself at home and please read the welcome folder. We will call in at sometime during your stay to say hello.
