Getting to Wilber

Gulargambone is situated in the heart of north western NSW.

A days drive from Brisbane and Melbourne
Approx 6 hours west of Sydney
5 hours from Newcastle
1 hr 15 mins from Dubbo
1 hour Coonabarabran
30 mins from Gilgandra

To the east is Warrumbungle National Park, with spectacular views and great hiking. A little further north is the Pilliga Scrub, which offers excellent bird watching. To the west are the Macquarie Marshes, providing superb kayaking opportunities.

Wilber is situated 6kms on the eastern edge of Gulargambone township.

From Gilgandra, take the Castlereagh Highway north through the main street of Gilgandra. DO NOT GO TOWARD COONABARABRAN or WARREN or DUBBO.  Continue north through Gulargambone towards Coonamble. Just 100 metresover the Gulargambone Creek Bridge on the northern edge of Gulargambone, turn right at the Warrumbungle National Park signpost. 6.2 km from the highway, turn right just after 2 watertanks into Wilber, DO NOT TAKE THE WILBER ROAD TURN TO THE LEFT. Turn right at the white disc and follow  1.5 km to the buildings.  Over the second cattle grid, there are several houses and various stables and sheds:

From Coonabarabran, If you are travelling from the North it is much quicker to come across through the Warrumbungle National Park rather than go around through Gilgandra. At the Clock Tower in the main street of Coonabarabran,  follow signs to the Warrumbungle National Park. Go through the park and over the ramp on the Western side. Follow that road, go past Gumin Homestead (do not turn left toward Tooraweenah) go onto the dirt road for about 6kms until you come to a slight "Y" in the road at 2 corrugated galahs. Take the left turn here which is signposted Gulargambone. About 4kms along there is quite a nasty "S" bend so keep your eye out for it! The road turns back into bitumen and follow for about 32kms where you will see a white plough disc on the left showing WILBER.  ...once you leave Coonabarabran, you will only make one slight left hand turn at the two corrugated galahs, otherwise it's straight ahead until you see the white Wilber disc on the left!!

If you come to a right fingerboard saying WILBER RD Warrana,Penally, Baroone, you have gone about 50 metres too far!

Over the second cattle grid, there are several houses and various stables and sheds:
