Gulargambone Township

Please support out little community while you are here

"Gulargambone"  is an aboriginal term meaning "watering hole of many birds".

Drive, walk or ride 6kms and visit the little town of Gulargambone which we proudly call home. The population is 500 and has 2 Grocers, a Wednesday Hairdresser, Café, Newsagent, Post Office, Credit Union, Hospital, Library, a Rural Supplies,  Pub, Bowling Club and a Golf Club. Basically everything you need to live. Fuel is only available Mon-Fri!!

A must see is two eight two eight, the dynamic, multi-faceted, award winning community centre which opens Wed, Thurs & Fri, 10-4 and Sat & Sun, 10-2. Be sure to watch the short dvd about our community projects while you are there2828 houses local handicrafts and souvenirs, artworks, FABULOUS vittoria coffee, home-cooked lunches and scrumptious desserts. Movies are held monthly, to check times and shows ring 2828 directly on 6825 1828 and speak to Margueritte or one of the volunteers. Scaled down versions of the corrugated galahs are on sale at 2828 and make great souvenirs for your garden or BBQ area. The hessian Gulargambone shopping bags are also great at $10 and an environmentally friendly gift for grandma or the dog sitter !.

Two of the most recent additions to our town are the corrugated galah sculptures and mainstreet murals. These are both the design of internationally recognised mural artist, Samantha Newstead.  Sam stays at Wilber for residencies during the year, and as a result, you may enjoy some of her artwork. You may also read and watch dvd's about the community based projects during your stay.  (dvd library in the old farmhouse).

Visitors to Gulargambone can swim at either the Bowling Club pool or the Town Baths, both welcoming spots on hot summer days. In winter there is golf, tennis or bowls (check local clubs for program).

The Castlereagh River which winds through the town offers a fantastic backdrop for the avid birdwatcher and is well worth strolling along the nature track beginning at the Lions Club park near the hospital.
